French designer Pierre-François Guerlain founded his eponymous perfumery in 1828. He began by providing clients with simple bath and body products, then quickly expanded his enterprise into fragrances. After a rapid rise fueled not just by stellar sales but also enthusiastic word of mouth, the company quickly became the official perfumer for many of Europe's royal families and their courts
